A Photo Re-do
Sometimes you think you’re done with a photo only to realize later that you really weren’t. Sometimes it is because your technique isn’t yet at the level necessary to accomplish what you want to do, sometimes it’s just that you didn’t think of an idea at the time.
That’s what happened to me. I love the two photos below for their lovely expressions of love, joy and warmth between mother and child, but at the same time, that blank white sky has always bothered me. Last night, as I was laying sleepless in bed at 3am, thinking of nothing in particular, dying of heat, it just hit me! Those photos needed to be processed in black and white!! Of course! Not sure why I didn’t think of that earlier. The lack of coloured sky, the crazy, wild clashing colour of the mother and child’s clothes…they were crying out to be black and white images!
So this morning, I got to work. I converted them to black and white and they were better, but still seemed to be missing something. So I decided to try a toning treatment. Ah! That was better. I added a vignette around the edges, and wham! That was it! The images they were meant to be.
Here are the before and afters. What do you think?
